NOTES: Col. (later Sir) Frederick Trench was an army officer and politician. In July 1824 he launched a proposal for a quay or embankment along the north bank of the Thames of which this print is a part. In 1827 he published his ideas in 'A collection of papers relating to the Thames Quay; with hints for some further improvements in the metropolis'. This work includes two plates which are very similar to the print seen here: plate V shows the existing elevation (AA) and plate VI shows Trench's proposed elevation (BB). Those two plates were drawn by Philip Wyatt, but whether he was responsible for this print is unknown.
