NOTES: The drawing is by an unidentified late 18th century English draughtsman and was amongst a series of working drawings by James Wyatt for Thirkleby Park, North Yorkshire. The drawing probably served as a model for some similar structure proposed to be built at Thirkleby in the years following the completion of the house. As the 'Telford' mentioned in the inscription cannot be found in any contemporary gazetteers, it has been suggested that 'from Telford' refers to a well-known nurseryman of that name whose establishment at York supplied plants to all the local gentry.
