NOTES: Opened in 1805, the London Dock was the second of London's great enclosed docks. The docks were finally closed to shipping in 1969 and sold to the borough of Tower Hamlets, which filled in the western portion of the Dock with building waste from all over London. The still largely derelict area was acquired by the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) in 1981 and subsequently redeveloped for residential use.
