NOTES: Commissioned by William Constable Maxwell (1804-1876) and built in the grounds of Everingham Hall in 1836-1839, this was one of the first private Catholic chapels to be built after the passing of the Catholic Emancipation Act in 1829. It was designed by Agostino Giorgioli, a young architect from Rome, and its building was supervised by John Harper of York.
