NOTES: This plaster bust is the working model for a marble bust of Tite commissioned by the London Institution, of which Tite was Hon. Secretary from 1824 to 1869. Its present location is unknown as the London Institution closed in 1912. In 1872 a second marble version was commissioned by "A Committee of Citizens" and presented to Bath Guildhall. Tite was the Liberal M.P. for Bath, 1855-1873. Conservation in 2008 revealed that beneath the painted surface of the RIBA's version, the plaster had pointing marks used to transfer the design to marble. This bust was presented to the RIBA by the sculptor in June 1869. Tite was President of the RIBA twice, in 1861-1863 and again in 1867-1869.
