Somerset House, Strand, London: design for the installation of an old chimneypiece in the cross gallery with a newly-designed overmantel

NOTES: According to the works accounts the cross gallery, formed in around 1612, was remodelled by Jones in 1636. The old chimneypiece was replaced by one to the above design, but incorporating the lower part with the waisted pilasters from the old fireplace carved and designed by Maximilan Colt.
