NOTES: Butterfield was asked to provide designs for the Anglican cathedral of Adelaide, a process that was carried on through correspondence with the bishop and local synod. Around 1868 Butterfield's designs were purchased from him and handed over to Woods, an English architect who had been practicing in Adelaide since 1860. Woods supervised the erection of the cathedral over its extended period of construction modifying Butterfield's designs. The building was consecrated and in use in 1878 but the entire external structure was not completed until 1904.
