NOTES: Edensor was removed from its original to its present site between 1838 and 1842 at the wish of the sixth Duke of Devonshire not to have the village in sight of Chatsworth. The planning of the new site was entrusted to the Duke's gardener, Joseph Paxton. This photograph is one of a number taken for the book entitled William Butterfield, by Professor Paul Thompson (London, Routledge and K. Paul, 1971). It appeared in the publication as fig. 37.
