NOTES: These Roman remains were exposed during excavations for the foundations of the Coal Exchange and new warehouses adjoining it (1848-1859) and preserved in its basement. When the Coal Exchange was demolished in 1962 the remains underwent a detailed archaeological investigation. The bath-house appears to have belonged to a large villa, or perhaps an inn, and seems to have been still in use until the early 500s.
