Notes SOURCE: John Tallis. Tallis's London Street Views (London, 1838-1840), no. 39 [High Street, Borough] detail NOTES: John Tallis produced 88 London street views between 1838-1840. Each focused on a specific street and featured a topographical view, directory and accompanying descriptive text. The Views were a commercial venture, and the streetscapes they featured centred on the shops and other businesses that paid to advertise in Tallis's directory rather than on sites of historical or architectural interest. This image shows St George's without its steeple.
