NOTES: The Banqueting House, designed by Inigo Jones and completed in 1622, was built for James I specifically to provide an appropriate setting for a new and elaborate type of court entertainment, the masque. The elaborate ceiling panels were painted by Peter Paul Rubens and installed in 1636. It is the only remaining component of the Palace of Whitehall.
