NOTES: Webb remodelled The Vyne (an existing Tudor manor house) for Chaloner Chute in 1653-54. It is believed that Webb's portico was the first free-standing Palladian portico to be incorporated in an English country house. This drawing bears an inscription by Lord Burlington, attributing the portico to Inigo Jones, although it is now believed that the entrance was in fact designed by Webb.
