NOTES: The so-called 'Burnt Column' was brought from Rome to Constantinople (Istanbul) by Emperor Constantine, when he transferred his capital from Rome to Byzantium in AD 330. It is also known as the 'Cemberlitas Column'. This drawing was probably produced by a local draughtsman for Charles Felix Marie Texier for use in his publications and later presented to the RIBA.
