Denkmale der Baukunst des Mittelalters in Sachsen (Leipzig, 1836-1843), vol. 1, 'Denkmale der Baukunst des Mittelalters in den Herzoglich Anhaltschen Landen' (1841), pl. 13a NOTES: The Benedictine abbey of Nienburg-Saale and its new church were dedicated in 1004. In the 16th century the conventual buildings were converted into a castle for the Princes of Anhalt which in 1871 became a factory. It was partly destroyed by fire in the 1990s. The Church of St Mary and St Cyprian is one of central Germany's significant early Gothic churches.
