NOTES: Alfred George Stevens travelled to Italy in 1834 where he spent nine years studying the frescoes and paintings of the Old Masters. This drawing may date from that time and is one of a collection of miscellaneous sketches. In the early 1840s, after attending a design course at the Florentine Academy, he returned to London.
