Villa Aldobrandini di Belvedere, Frascati: the cascade of the Water Theatre (Teatro delle Acque)

SOURCE: Giovanni Battista Falda. Le fontane delle ville di Frascati (Rome, 1675?-1685), pl. 8 NOTES: This patrician villa was designed by Giacomo della Porta and built by Carlo Maderno in 1598-1603. The gardens featured a Water Theatre designed by Maderno and completed in 1621. He was assisted in the creation of the waterworks by Giovanni Fontana and Orazio Oliveri while the special hydraulic system was engineered by Giovanni Guglielmi.
