NOTES: This drawing is part of the Burlington Devonshire Collection. Pope Julius III assigned the initial design of the villa (also known as the Casino della Vigna di Papa Giulia III) to Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola in 1551-1553. The nymphaeum and other garden structures, however, were designed by Bartolomeo Ammanati under the supervision of Giorgio Vasari. The authorship of this drawing is disputed but it has been previously attributed to Giorgio Vasari and Bartolomeo Ammannati. It is one of a number of drawings from the Burlington Devonshire Collection. Howard Burns believes that the draughtsman was French.
