NOTES: These British-style botanical gardens were established in 1931-1940 by Scotsman Captain Neil McEacharn, who bought 'La Crocetta', an existing villa and its neighbouring estates, and renamed it Villa Taranto. The gardens opened to the public in 1952 and passed to the Italian nation on McEachan's death in 1964.
