NOTES: These premises had been used as a canteen and a club for New Zealand forces during World War II and were converted by Riches & Blythin into a public library which opened in 1948. The main library, formerly the assembly hall and gallery, was decorated with pink ceilings, cream walls, terracotta-coloured columns and steel shelving and balustrades painted battleship grey. The fluorescent light fittings were manufactured by Thorn Electrical Industries Ltd.
