Working drawings for the south-east extensions to the Fitzwilliam Museum, Trumpington Street, Cambridge: cross ssection of square gallery extension

NOTES: The Fitzwilliam Museum was built in 1837-1843 to the competition-winning designs of George Basevi, completed by Charles Cockerell. This building is today known as the Founder's Building. Smith & Brewer were commissioned in 1914 to prepare designs for an extension to the south-east of the Founder's Building, but the war stopped work on the project and was only resumed in 1920 by which time prices had escalated and the extension was only progressed in stages. Construction started in 1926 and only reached completion in 1936.
