York Minster: the choir seen from the organ screen after the fire of 2 February 1829

NOTES: The fire, the result of arson, destroyed 230 feet of the choir roof, the medieval choir stalls, the organ and the pulpit. The work of restoration (1830-1832) was carried out by Sir Robert Smirke and paid for by public subscription.
