Speaking ahead of the RIBA’s International Conference, Lord Norman Foster tells us what he thinks is the future of our cities and the role architects can play in shaping this future.
Lord Foster’s vision for the future city is “the sustainable city [which is] about strong civic leadership, pedestrianisation, people over cars, density [and] mixed-use.”
For this vision to be made reality, Lord Foster advocates for the profession to “move outside of buildings” and “embrace other disciplines”. Only then, he says, can we offer a “higher quality of urban life in a more sustainable, more green future."
