The RIBA Insurance Agency has issued the following guidance to architects in relation to high-rise buildings using cladding systems:
- If your practice has been involved in work on buildings over 18m in height with external cladding systems during the last 15 years, you are advised to make early contact with your PI insurers ahead of your annual policy renewal date, as you may be required to disclose further details of these projects as part of the renewal process.
- On design and build projects involving external cladding systems, you should ensure that the design and build contractor’s PI insurance policy does not have a cladding exclusion clause, and that the contractual requirements for your PI insurance are not more onerous than that offered by the contractor’s policy.
