Architecture Walking Tour: Thamesmead

Join Thaddeus Zupancic for a tour of the iconic post-war estate.

Thamesmead, made iconic as one of the settings of A Clockwork Orange, is undergoing a £1.5bn regeneration by the housing association Peabody.  Join Thaddeus Zupancic, who runs the popular modernist architecture Instagram account @notreallyobsessive, for a tour of South Thamesmead.

After meeting at Abbey Wood railway station, we will first explore Lesnes and Southmere, and then its younger sibling, The Moorings. Thaddeus Zupancic will talk us through the areas of South Thamesmead already demolished as well as those still to be demolished or refurbished in one of the largest regeneration projects currently ongoing in the UK.

In association with the Twentieth Century Society and Peabody.

This event is part of the photography display at RIBA, Thamesmead: A Town for the 21st Century, exploring past and present Thamesmead through archival images from the RIBA Collections and contemporary photographs by artist Nina Manandhar.
