Family Fun Day: Build This Dream Together
If you could save one building for your local community, what would it be? Join us for a fun-filled family day of drop-in and timed workshops exploring architecture with a shared dream. Inspired by our current exhibition, we're celebrating how communities have united to create architecture that brings people together. Be an architect for the day and help us build this dream together as we consider what buildings are important to society and take part in activities that explore the architectural design process.
Spaces for Stories
11am to 4pm, drop in
Design! Make! BUILD! Take part in the original form of community architecture: den building. Throughout the day you will follow in the steps of an architect as you design your ideas on paper and see how they work in practice by creating a mini model of your idea for a community space to socialise. Then we will be transforming the Florence Hall with large scale versions of your nature inspired installations, the perfect place to create and share stories.
11am to 4pm, drop in
What is your favourite part of your local area? Or what type of space would you like to see built in your local community? Get inventive and creative and, using card and scissors (no paper or pens!), design a small pop-up diorama of a place you would like to use with other people in your community. Then add your mini community design to our growing installation and help us create our collaborative dream town.
Brick Decorating workshop
Half-hour sessions between 11.15am to 12.45pm and 2 to 3.30pm.
Strictly for ages 7+. This activity has limited availability.
Join architect Takeshi Hayatsu, and students from Central Saint Martins’ MArch programme for a hands-on brick decorating workshop. You will go through two stages to create your own unique brick by pressing and hammering using handmade tools to imprint arts and crafts influenced patterns onto bricks. Then at a later date, your brick will be sent offsite to be fired in a kiln, so you can keep it forever.
Please note: This activity has limited spaces and will run in half-hour sessions with five bricks being decorated per session. A sign-up sheet for the morning sessions will be available in reception from 10.30am, while the sign-up sheet for the afternoon sessions will be available in reception from 1.30pm. Due to the nature of this workshop and the tools being used, this workshop is strictly for children aged seven and over and parents must assist and supervise their children at all times. The brick will be fired offsite and we will take your details and let you know when you can come to collect it.
