Working in international regions: three leading architects share their personal experiences of working internationally

In the third and final talk in this series, David Nelson, Senior Executive Partner Head of Design at Foster + Partners, Maja Nesdale, Principal at Gensler and Yasmin Al-Ani Spence, Director at WilkinsonEyre will come together to talk about their insights and experiences of practicing abroad. They will reveal the stories behind their international projects and share the successes and the challenges of working with clients in different cultures and a global context. The session will be chaired by RIBA Vice President of International, Chris Williamson of Weston Willamson + Partners.

According to the RIBA’s latest Global by Design report, one in five architects has considered working abroad since the EU referendum. But until now, international work has mainly been the preserve of larger practices, who are perhaps better able to cope with the regulatory environment and the costs of exporting their skills. There is, however, evidence of new and exciting opportunities for practices of all sizes, across many sectors, to spread their wings abroad.
