66 Portland Place

Designed by George Grey Wornum, 66 Portland Place was officially opened on 8 November 1934 by King George V. Wornum's design was part of a competition to create a new home for the Royal Institute of British Architects after outgrowing the original headquarters at 9 Conduit Street.

On 14 September 1970, 66 Portland Place was granted Grade II* status. Today, 66 Portland Place is home to RIBA's architecture galleries, the RIBA Library, a café, the RIBA Bookshop and more.

Usual opening hours:

Monday to Friday 8am to 5.30pm (Tuesday open until 8pm)
Saturday 10am to 5pm
Sunday Closed    

Upcoming closures: 66 Portland Place will be closed to the public on Saturday 13 April and Saturday 20 April. 

RIBA Library - Monday to Friday 11am to 5pm (Tuesday, 12pm to 7pm)

Upcoming closures: The RIBA Library will be closed for the Easter holiday until 11am on Monday 8 April. It will also be closed for summer stock takes from Friday 16 August until 11am on Monday 16 September, 2024

Architecture Gallery - from 26 February: Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm (Tuesday, 10am to 8pm)

How to get here

  • Nearest London Underground stations are Oxford Circus, Regents Park and Great Portland Street 
  • Buses that stop nearby include: C2, 18, 27, 30, 88, 205 and 453
  • Bicycle racks are located outside 66 Portland Place and cycle hire docking stations can be found along Portland Place
  • On-street parking is available on Portland Place (A4021) and its vicinity. Please note 66 Portland Place is inside the northern boundary of the Congestion Charging zone
