The Forum is a major regeneration scheme in Southend-on-Sea, designed to unlock this seaside town’s potential. Formerly a brownfield site, the project creates a new public square, connecting public realm to the town’s High Street leading to the famous pier. The project is a unique three-way client share between Southend Borough Council, University of Essex and South Essex College, and provides a modern academic and municipal library, learning and teaching facilities, an art gallery, lecture theatre, seminar rooms and offices. Widely publicised, the scheme has won 14 awards and commendations, including from the Civic Trust, RICS, RIBA and Concrete Society, recognising community benefit, sustainability and design quality.
