The design and delivery of new office headquarters for the charity CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development), is based on the vision of promoting collaborative working and embodiment of the client?s ?live simply? philosophy. Built on an underused car park adjacent to St. George?s Cathedral, the building incorporates a triangular open-plan office, central circulation spine and atrium with support spaces, including meeting rooms, toilets and break-out spaces. A roof top caf? provides an attractive amenity space for all building users. The layout is designed to encourage interaction between people from different floors, with support functions on half levels between office areas, promoting knowledge sharing and a sense of community within the organisation. Robust materials provide a low cost, long life, low maintenance solution. Sustainability targets are achieved through the following: -Closed loop piling?ground source heating & cooling -Passive stack ventilation -Exposed thermal mass?in-situ concrete -Green roof -Natural daylight through atrium and continuous high level strip windows -Solar water heating -Photovoltaic array to atrium roof -Rainwater harvesting/SUDS -Energy performance display system
