St Catherine’s Health Centre is a four-storey healthcare facility designed by One, and commissioned by NHS Wirral to meet the changing health and social care needs of the local community. Standing on the site of the original Victorian St Catherine’s Hospital – which includes a Grade II listed church – the £32m project centres around a landmark building, vibrant public spaces and a pedestrian boulevard linking each of the five clinical wings of the health centre. The natural curve and form of its layout has earned the design the affectionate name of ‘The Smile’. Completed in 2013, the development – rated BREEAM ‘Excellent’ – is home to two GP practices, a range of Wirral NHS Trust services and lifestyle advice.
