For the first time the competition was open to registered architects as well as architectural students and competitors had the option to base their submissions on a ‘real’ site at Hillington Square in Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

Prizes were awarded by Wayne Hemingway of Hemingway Design at a ceremony held at the RIBA HQ in London in 5 December 2011. A prize fund of £20,000 was split between the student and professional categories and the winners were:

Professional category:

• 1st Prize (£5,000) Pope Priestley Architects
• 2nd Prize (£3,000) David Tigg Architects
• 3rd Prize (£2,000) The Imaginary Rock Foundation

Student category:

• 1st Prize (£5,000) Craig More (London Metropolitan University)
• 2nd Prize (£3,000) James Perry and Claire Harper
• 3rd Prize (£2,000) Tom Cole (University of Westminster)
