RIBA National Schools Competition

Building for Survival

As part of the launch of our new Clore Learning Centre, RIBA Learning invited schools from across the country to take part in our Building for Survival Competition. We asked students to design a new building or space for communities affected by extreme weather which tried to reduce environmental pollution and solved problems created by the new climate residents would face.  The winning entry would win a free in-school architecture workshop for their class in 2020.

On Saturday 26th October audiences at the RIBA Festival of Learning, voted on their favourite concept from the shortlisted entries, with the winning entry announced by esteemed environmental scientist Professor James Crabbe. We are therefore delighted to announce that Drain Tower, by Maggie age 11 at Penkridge Middle School, Staffordshire is the winning design
