How do you describe your approach to the design?

Our values drive our approach, recognising our responsibility towards our clients and the broader community. In our studio, every decision is guided by the goal of positively impacting people and the planet. This ranges from using innovative, low-carbon materials in our projects to engaging with charities and supporting our local community.

What projects are you currently working on?

We are working on several challenging but exciting hotel projects, including The Montcalm Marble Arch, a listed five star hotel on a very constrained site due to open in the Autumn. The project features a contemporary extension and sensitive refurbishment.

Similarly, work has commenced on Miiro, another significant hotel refurbishment in Earl’s Court that launches a new pan-European brand’s London flagship property and includes a new “orangery” extension overlooking landscaped gardens.

Why do clients come to you?

We have built a diverse client base that values design to strengthen their brands and fulfil their long-term aspirations. Our approach to client service is accessible, engaging, and informative, helping them make well-informed decisions. Our status as a B Corporation is a key aspect of our identity, attracting organisations that share our commitment to values-driven design.

What have been the highlights for you in the past year?

Winning the Building Design Architect Employer of the Year award was a significant achievement, highlighting our commitment to creating a nurturing and supportive studio culture. From a project standpoint, the opening of Corner at Tate Modern marked a significant moment, showcasing our dedication to circularity and social impact in a globally respected institution.

Is there anything exciting on the horizon?

Real momentum is gathering around the opportunities for retrofitting and adaptively reusing existing buildings. Our recent scheme for HubCap and Bridges Fund Management sees the conversion of an old bank next to St. Paul’s Cathedral into an aparthotel.

The project will see the building being upgraded to net zero environmental standards, including new high-performance windows that will see the design of the original 19th-century façade reinstated. The scheme supports the City of London’s recent shift in policy to prioritise retrofit schemes and change of use for underutilised buildings in the Square Mile.

Where we are to build new, we are very focused on low-carbon materials such as timber and stone and are currently developing a multi-unit housing scheme specifically aimed at alleviating homelessness.
