Catalogues to the RIBA Drawings Collection

Between 1969 and 1984, RIBA produced a set of 19 detailed catalogues to its world-class drawings collection. Today, these catalogues remain some of the most valuable sources of information for understanding our collection, as well as respected reference works in their own right. Now they are available online, in full, for the first time.

We have been collecting architectural drawings since 1834, alongside the manuscripts, photographs, books, and other material that together make up the RIBA Collections.

The 'Catalogue of the Drawings Collection of the Royal Institute of British Architects', published in 19 volumes over two decades by Gregg International, offers the most detailed overview of the drawings in our collections, covering the work of hundreds of architects. The catalogue notes the dates, inscriptions, provenance and media of the drawings, alongside detailed contextual information for many of them, and biographical information for each architect. It offers a valuable companion to our more comprehensive (but less detailed) online catalogue

To support remote access to our collections resources, each of the 19 volumes is available to download below. As they are scans of printed books, they may not display optimally on all devices, and there may be inaccuracies in the text generated via OCR. For ease of use, covers and some blank pages have been removed from the scans, which may affect pagination. If you have any questions or feedback, please email drawingsandarchives@riba.org.

The volumes are also held in our library, and by our drawings and archives service, where the drawings themselves can be accessed. Some of the drawings can be found in digital form on our online image library, RIBApix.
