Architecture at the National Eisteddfod

The shortlist for the 2019 Gold Medal for Architecture will be exhibited at the National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst from 3 to 10 August 2019. In partnership with Design Commission for Wales and the National Eisteddfod, RSAW has commissioned photographer James Morris and poet Beth Celyn to respond to each shortlisted building.

From 3 to 10 August 2019, the shortlist for the 2019 Gold Medal for Architecture will be exhibited at the National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst. In partnership with Design Commission for Wales and the National Eisteddfod, RSAW has commissioned photographer James Morris and poet Beth Celyn to respond to each shortlisted building. The results will be on view in Y Lle Celf throughout the festival.

The seven shortlisted projects are: Ysgol Trimsaran, Carmarthenshire; Ysgol Pen Rhos, Llanelli; Maggie’s, Cardiff; Tŷ Pawb, Wrexham; Gweithdy, National Museum of History, St Fagans; Canolfan S4C Yr Egin, Carmarthen and private residence Silver How, Llanhennock.

The Gold Medal for Architecture commemorates Thomas Alwyn Lloyd (1881 – 1960) and will be presented to the winning architects on Saturday 3 August 2019 at 5.20pm in the main pavilion. The Plaque of Merit, given to ‘smaller projects of a value of up to £750,000, achieving high design quality’, will be announced later in the week.
