See the winning entry to the second theme of our #DisappearHere social media image contest

31 October 2018

We've chosen a winner for the second theme of our Disappear Here image contest. Congratulations to Alan Roberts (@becomeanarchitect) who submitted his beautifully symmetrical shot of the Salk Institute in California via Instagram.

Winning photo by Alan Roberts (@becomeanarchitect) submitted via Instagram. The image was taken whilst on a Texas Society of Architects guided tour of the Salk Institute, California, designed by Louis Kahn.

The second theme in our series of #DisappearHere contests running until 24 November was centred around #Horizons, inspired by our Disappear Here: On perspective and other kinds of space exhibition currently open in the Architecture Gallery at 66 Portland Place.

Alan will be receiving a Sam Jacob Studio-designed beach towel, as well a copy of RIBA Publishing's Value in the View book by Tom Brigden. His winning image will also be published across our social media profiles to over 200,000 followers!

Runners up in the contest, left to right: Valeria Ricci's (@___holly_) Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi and Milly Harvey's (@casualmilly) Georgetown, Penang.

The judging was undertaken anonymously by our Head of Exhibitions, Miranda Stacey, who also chose the above images by Valeria Ricci and Milly Harvey as very worthy runners up, narrowly missing out on the prize.

Here's just a small selection of the other 200+ photos and drawing that were submitted.

Other entries to the contest; from left to right, top to bottom: @fiona_bacon, @kalliopi_b, @thomhoffer, and @sketchingwall.

Thank you to everyone who entered. Stay tuned to find out the third and final theme of the #DisappearHere contest series, which will be announced shortly on our social media channels featuring new prizes!

Other entries to the contest; from left to right, top to bottom: @leslieburgher, @evymeehan, @_bedster, and @arkitok.
