Steve Eastland, of Steve Eastland Design, has been elected as the new chair elect of RIBA Exeter, and will become branch chair from September 2020. Steve continues to work with current chair, Andy Long, and the active committee on 2020 activity.

Steve said: "In this period of change - in politics, technology and society - I believe architects have a unique role to play in the future of the built environment that few other professions can or should fulfil.

"To do this, the RIBA must engage with its members to help remove the barriers to high quality design. Without this, the Climate Change Agenda and the fragmented process which led to the tragic events at Grenfell will not be properly addressed.

"The process of designing buildings well is difficult and will be even more complex in the future. We, as architects and future architects, should lead the changes that will be required to meet these and the many other challenges that will arise. The RIBA is our organisation and our mechanism to do this."
