The RIBA and AUS held an evening networking reception on 3 October 2022 at House of Wisdom Sharjah, attended by RIBA Chartered Members in the UAE, AUS faculty, and stakeholders. The event was welcomed by RIBA Director of International, Azlina Bulmer and AUS Chancellor Dr Susan Mumm.

Welcome and thanks by AUS Chancellor Dr Susan Mumm

This is the second in-person RIBA event in the region since the pandemic and was open exclusively to RIBA Chartered Members in the UAE and AUS Faculty. The RIBA and the American University of Sharjah's collaboration is of great importance to RIBA in order to align with and expand the growing international network allowing RIBA to continue to support architecture students and to engage and elevate the architecture community in the Gulf.

To coincide with the event, the reception also celebrated World Architecture Day following Peter Jackson's FRIBA lecture at AUS on Paper Architecture: Birth of a Profession.

Welcome speech by RIBA Director of International, Azlina Bulmer

RIBA Director of International, Azlina Bulmer said:

The RIBA recognises the significant role of architects, particularly in shaping communities and societies as a whole. We do note that this collaboration reaffirms our close partnership with AUS and it is of special significance as we will be collaborating on supporting the students at the university and are especially looking forward to championing elevated design thinking in the minds of future architects with the students at AUS. This evening is also an opportunity to meet and connect with fellow architects, built environment professionals, and students in the UAE. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AUS and the RIBA is another step, albeit a very large and proud one forward.
