RIBA Client of the Year 2022 shortlist revealed

Four projects have been shortlisted for this award, which recognises clients who commission and champion outstanding architecture.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced the shortlist for the RIBA Client of the Year 2022, an annual award that recognises clients who commission and champion outstanding architecture.

The RIBA Client of the Year 2022 shortlist is:

  • Balliol College

for Masters Field Development by Niall McLaughlin Architects

  • British Land

for 100 Liverpool Street by Hopkins Architects

  • Thornsett Group Plc and The Benyon Estate

for Hackney New Primary School and 33 Kingsland Road by Henley Halebrown

  • London Borough of Sutton

for Harris Academy, Sutton by Architype

Chair of the RIBA Client of the Year 2022 jury, Denise Bennetts, said:

“From a South London council to one of Oxford University’s oldest colleges, each of these clients must be commended and upheld for their commitment to considered, quality design. Through commissioning and working alongside exceptionally skilled architects, they have set new benchmarks for housing, workplaces, schools and higher-education facilities. I thank and congratulate them all.”

The winner of the RIBA Client of the Year 2022 will be announced at the RIBA Stirling Prize Party on Thursday 13 October at 66 Portland Place.

The RIBA Client of the Year 2022 jury comprised: Denise Bennetts (Chair) Bennetts Associates Founder; Tracy Meller Senior Partner at RSHP; and Dr Timothy Winter Cambridge Mosque Trustee, Founder and Dean of the Cambridge Muslim College and winner of the RIBA Client of the Year 2021.
