The RIBA Gulf chapter arranged a free tour for members of Masdar City to showcase it’s approach to sustainability and building design, with a tour led by Chris Wan from Masdar. A livestream of the event was available to all online.

Since inception, Masdar City has been a beacon of UAE’s sustainability journey and a platform for discourse addressing sustainable development, business, research and development partnerships. It has also been attracting heads of state, thought leaders, experts, academia, and the business community.

Visitors to Masdar can enjoy an immersive experience; learning about Masdar City's unique features, its commitment to reducing carbon emissions, and how it is creating a more sustainable future for all.

Masdar City is the place to learn and experience the UAE; its strong traditions and ambitious future.

An official guided tour for RIBA Members and guests of Masdar City's visitor center and podium included information on:

  • Masdar City's sustainable development and accelerating the UAE's journey to net-zero.
  • Masdar City's transportation (strategy to implementation).
  • Masdar City's lifestyle, community, recreation and liveability.
  • Masdar City's community (a comprehensive eco-system spanning government, education, and the private sector) Masdar Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company's clean energy global impact.
  • The Catalyst, Masdar City's venture arm, which invests in start-ups focused on clean tech.

This enlightening journey into the heart of sustainability provided a unique opportunity to explore one of the world's most advanced urban developments, designed to be a hub for clean technology and innovation.Masdar City stands as a testament to human ingenuity and as a commitment to environmental sustainability.

During the tour, Chris Wan - a key figure in the city's development - shared insights into its cutting-edge design and technology; including renewable energy sources, water conservation methods, and sustainable urban planning.

This was a rare chance to see first hand how Masdar City operates within a zero-carbon framework, aiming to create a blueprint for future cities around the globe.
