The proposals from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) include introducing a new Fast Track Process to speed up reviews of newbuild cases and remediation decisions and further investment to support the delivery of 1.5 million homes.
RIBA Chair of Board of Trustees, Jack Pringle said:
“We have been staunch supporters of reform to the building safety regime and have worked closely with the government to shape the new regulatory system. But backlogs in approvals are hindering the delivery of safe, high-quality homes we desperately need.
This announcement is a positive step towards addressing these delays. We look forward to more details on how the new Fast Track process will work in practice – any changes to the system must not come at the expense of safety and quality.
To support our members, we have issued guidance on preparing high quality Gateway 2 submissions and continue to share best practice and lessons learned. The government’s commitment to work with industry to publish new guidance to further support improvement in application quality is therefore welcome.
More work is needed to deliver the well-designed, safe and sustainable homes we need, and we continue to work with the government and industry to achieve this.”
