RIBA Singapore Chapter's future decided in Extra General Meeting

An outcome on the future of the RIBA Singapore Chapter was successfully reached at the chapter's Extra General Meeting held in December 2022.

10 March 2023

An outcome on the future of the RIBA Singapore Chapter has been reached during an Extra General Meeting held in December 2022.

The votes were counted and a majority was in favour of dissolution of the chapter as a society. The RIBA Singapore Chapter will transfer to the new RIBA entity, namely RIBA Singapore Pte Ltd.

As previously outlined, with the introduction of RIBA Singapore, the aim is to ensure the Royal Institute of British Architects can offer its members enhanced services in Singapore and the wider ASEAN region as well as a better member experience globally.

RIBA Singapore Pte Ltd.

The new entity will deliver trading activities in Singapore and wider ASEAN countries. Activities will be low level in the short term, and will include:

  • professional training courses
  • exhibition conferences/forums
  • talks
  • work with local stakeholders including government agencies, this is particularly important with the emergence of CPTPP

RIBA Singapore has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RIBA and the chapter committee has simply been transferred to RIBA's new legal vehicle as a ‘committee’ of that entity with the same committee structure as per the Register of Society (ROS) constitution which will:

  • enable volunteer group (also known as Singapore Chapter) to deliver free local activities for RIBA Members and wider built environment professionals
  • enable the chapter to apply for the Local Initiative Fund and use RIBA branding under license

Further information on the proposals for a new RIBA entity in Singapore can be found in the meeting resources section below.
