Members of RIBA practice high professional standards as required by the Code of Conduct and the Code of Practice.
Integrity, competence, and the management of relationships are the backbone of all good professional conduct, and these three principles form the framework of RIBA’s Code of Conduct and the Code of Practice. Both codes provide guidance and examples - for the profession and the public - on what is to be expected of a RIBA architect: their role, remit, and responsibilities.
The codes provide useful tools for clients to understand the high standards of professional conduct that our members embody, whereby the appointment of a RIBA Member, whether an individual or a Chartered Practice, provides an assurance of best practice through the commitment to excellence in design and service delivery.
The Codes also provide confidence that in the exceptional circumstance that a member’s conduct falls short of expectations, RIBA has in place a rigorous and impartial procedure for the investigation of complaints made against its members in relation to alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct and/or the Code of Practice.
RIBA receives only a small number of complaints each year, however if you are unable to resolve a situation through the member’s complaint process and you wish to make a complaint about the professional conduct of a member please contact.
Complaints are investigated in line with the disciplinary procedures in force at the time the complaint is made to RIBA. The conduct of members is judged against the relevant Code that was in force at the time that the alleged conduct took place.
Please read the guide for Complainants which outlines important information regarding the disciplinary process.
