Fifty-nine per cent of architects’ practices now use Artificial Intelligence (AI) compared with 41% in 2024. The profession continues to lead technical innovation in the construction industry.
But much is uncertain:
- could AI eventually replace the role of the architect?
- what effects might AI have on future fees and employment opportunities?
- how are architects using AI, and what does this mean for the future of building design and architectural practice?
- what are the risks of AI, and how can practices guard against them?
- what are the benefits and opportunities that AI offers the profession, and how can they be seized?
Our Artificial Intelligence (AI) Report 2025 explores these questions, giving an evidence based picture of the rapid developments the profession has seen and expects, as AI gains a firm foothold in practice.
A view emerges that AI will radically develop and augment the architect’s role but not replace it.

The report includes a detailed synopsis of the findings from our recent member survey about AI, covering its actual and expected use in design and practice management, along with an overview of the ethical and practical challenges that architects are addressing.
Reflecting the work carried out by our Expert Advisory Group, the report also includes a suite of articles discussing AI in practice, covering how AI can be used in architecture and construction, and the practical steps architects may consider taking now to make the most of this rapidly emerging technology.
These include discussions of:
- the current and future work of the RIBA Expert Advisory Group
- avoiding AI risks to reap the rewards
- AI and low carbon building
- AI and design thinking
- creating a practice AI policy
- the future of offsite manufacturing
- a case study of AI for practice success and growth
We will continue to monitor AI developments and provide expert opinion and guidance about emerging and developing technology and the profession.
The RIBA Expert Advisory Group, reporting to RIBA Council, will continue to guide and inform this work.
