RIBA North West talk: Design Like a Girl

Join the RIBA North West EDI group and Joanna Schmickel, Principal at cox graae + spack architects in Washington DC, to hear about her successful mentoring programme: Design Like a Girl.

Design Like a Girl is a mentoring programme that has been delivered by the Washington D.C. Chapter of The American Institute of Architects since 2016. The programme supports girls between the ages of 11 and 14, before the age when self-doubt often lowers their confidence, pairing them with professionals from architecture, construction, and engineering who lead workshops and act as role models. The programme aims to build confidence and remove any associations the girls have with doing something "like a girl" with being inferior, and to showcase architecture and related fields as appropriate careers.

Join us to learn more about the programme, and the impact it has had on the girls who have taken part. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and an open discussion.
