Acoustics, ventilation and overheating: holistic façade design

Natural ventilation is an important low-carbon tool for avoiding overheating in buildings. However, the presence of an open window can compromise the acoustic performance of the façade, forcing the occupant to choose between thermal and acoustic comfort. This workshop will consider simple design solutions to create a balance between acoustic and thermal performance.

Natural ventilation is an important low carbon tool for avoiding overheating in buildings. However, the presence of an open window can compromise the acoustic performance of the façade, forcing the occupant to choose between thermal and acoustic comfort.

This workshop will consider simple design solutions to create a balance between acoustic and thermal performance, and how adding shading or choosing suitable glazing types can decrease the ventilation requirements for overheating - thus decreasing noise ingress.
