Acoustics, ventilation and overheating: Holistic façade design for all project types

Join us to hear from MACH Group, who will discuss simple design solutions to create a balance between acoustic and thermal performance, exploring the interconnectivity between different façade elements and how to get the best acoustic performance from open windows.

Upcoming changes in Welsh and English Building Regulations will require all new dwellings to mitigate the risk of overheating and also consider the impact of overheating on energy use, noise ingress, air quality and security.

Natural ventilation is an important low carbon tool for avoiding overheating in buildings, however, the presence of an open window can compromise the acoustic performance of the façade, forcing the occupant to choose between thermal and acoustic comfort.

Within this workshop, MACH will discuss simple design solutions to create a balance between acoustic and thermal performance, exploring the interconnectivity between different façade elements and how to get the best acoustic performance from open windows.

This session will be held virtually through Microsoft Teams.

Core Curriculum topics:
