Having been highly commended in the People and Culture category at this year's Constructing Excellence East Midlands Awards, we have asked Morrisons Design, a Derby based local practice to share with us their insights into the business benefits of building and supporting an inclusive workforce.
They will reveal how and why they signed up to the RIBA Inclusion Charter and give you some ideas of the actions you too can take to make your workplace a welcoming environment for all.
We'll also be joined by Emily Jeffers, EDI lead at RIBA who will answer any questions about the process and how your practice can use inclusive policies to recruit and retain a diverse range of talent in your team.
Who should attend?
This event is aimed at small to medium practices who want to ensure that they have everything in place to make their working environment welcoming and accessible to all, to ensure that their growth continues on the right trajectory.
What are some examples of Morrisons Design's inclusion work?
Morrisons Design said "We’ve been rigorously reviewing our existing policies and practices to ensure we’re doing everything we can to promote diversity and inclusion in our workplace.
We asked our team what’s most important to them and now have a selection of events throughout the year which we take part in as a team. In 2023 we celebrated International Women’s Day, Pride, and Black History Month. As part of these events not only do we celebrate but we also educate. For example, we created displays on inspirational female, black and LGBTQ+ architects and take part in educational team sessions.
We introduced more policies to encourage greater diversity and inclusion in our practice, for example, a menopause policy, menstruation policy, fertility journey policy, and added flexibility when our team most need it."
