Join us and Cheshire Society of Architects for a special evening in Chester, marking 50 years since the city’s involvement in the European Architectural Heritage Year. This anniversary offers the perfect opportunity to reflect on Chester’s unique built environment, it's conservation journey, and the ongoing importance of heritage in shaping the city’s identity.
The evening will be led by Tony Barton, a local heritage architect with extensive knowledge of Chester’s historic fabric. Tony will guide us through the city centre, sharing insights into its medieval, Georgian, and Victorian layers, as well as the challenges and opportunities of preserving such a rich urban environment in a modern context.
We will gather at the Bear and Billet on Lower Bridge Street from 6pm, before setting off towards the heart of the city. The walking tour will last approximately 90 minutes, weaving through Chester’s streets, Rows, and hidden corners, bringing the city’s architectural story to life.
Following the tour, we will return to the Bear and Billet for a relaxed social with drinks and light snacks — a chance to continue conversations, meet you Regional council representatives, and celebrate Chester’s architectural heritage together.
This event is open to all, whether you are a practicing architect , future architect, or simply passionate about the history and future of Chester’s built environment.
