This year we are very excited to have William Matthews present the CAT Summer lecture.

William Matthews studied architecture at the University of Sheffield, completing his diploma in 1994.

From 1994 to 2012 he worked with Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Paris. Projects completed during this time include the Beyeler Museum Basel, Potzdamer Platz Berlin, the Art Institute of Chicago and Central St Giles in London.

From 2001 to 2012 William led the Shard design team from the initial ideas through planning and detailed design to construction and completion.

In 2013 he established his own firm, William Matthews Associates, based in London. Current projects include a new house on the White Cliffs of Dover, a footbridge in central London, a roof top restaurant near the Shard and a kayak for Wallpaper* magazine.

The practice has won several international competitions including for the Tintagel Castle footbridge. Designed in collaboration with the Belgian engineering practice Ney & Partners the bridge will be completed in spring 2019.

This event is kindly sponsored by Fineline Aluminium and supported by RIBA South West and Falmouth University.
